Hey, I’m Forest! 🌲🌲
I do quite a lot in the Rust world. I’m a lead of the Rust Game Development Working Group, and the Rust Cross Team Collaboration Fun Times meetup. I run a monthly meetup for Rust game development, edit a monthly Rust gamedev newsletter, co-host a podcast, edit Veloren’s blog, and do a few other things here and there.
Here’s some more information about those different things!
I’m one of the core developers of Veloren, a game written in Rust from the ground up! From the project site:
Veloren is a multiplayer voxel RPG written in Rust. It is inspired by games such as Cube World, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft.
Veloren is fully open-source, licensed under GPL 3. It uses original graphics, musics and other assets created by its community. Being contributor-driven, its development community and user community is one and the same: developers, players, artists and musicians come together to develop the game.
The Rust teams and working groups have proven to be a really effective way to scale the project. As the teams have grown, though, they have come to operate more and more independently, and we need mechanisms for the whole project to stay in sync. The "Cross-Team Collaboration Fun Times" meeting (CTCFT for short) aims to be one of those mechanisms.
I’ve helped to lead the Rust CTCFT for the last several months, and now I’m the co-lead of the team!
